Modern and Contemporary are often used in the same context but there is, in fact, a notable difference between the two. Although styles began to change slightly in the early 20th century, modern styles really took off in the 1950's as we began to leave behind the warmth and charm of traditional furnishings for a more current reflection of our world and who we were becoming. Spurred by post WWII growth, this movement continued on through the 60's and Modern styles today are generally defined as the 1950-1960 look.
